Interviews: Industrial

7 for the world

Interview with Diego Bernini, Fustiplast Sales Director

Fustiplast is part of the “Cassina Packaging Group” that includes 7 companies: Fustiplast, Fustiplast Germany and Fustiplast Do Brasil, recently opened, Plastinova, Global Tube, Impet and Multipack. Fustiplast has been part of the plastics world since 1972, starting up from an experience of industrial molding drums, that is to say industrial packaging, to later increase its range to jerry cans too. Fustiplast and Plastinova together represent over 60% of the Italian market.

What are your strategies at an international level?
Bernini: The market is now a global one, the multinationals of the chemical area do not operate at a national level but at a European level. So it is necessary to have more production plants: it is with this point of view that we see our new German plant. China and India are surely markets with a strong growth potential, but they are still unstable. It is fundamental to maintain our presence in Europe and Italy; here comes the acquisition of a company branch that can already supply trained personnel and an adequate work space area of 60,000 square meters on the Germany–France border.

What plans does Fustiplast have for the future? Towards which action will it direct its resources?
Bernini: The next step is to produce 60 lt. drums. There will be innovations of the valve system regarding the 1.000 lt. tank: new gaskets to guarantee a better chemical compatibility, heat resistance and safety during transportation. The latest valve is produced and then welded directly on the tank instead of being screwed in.

What are the market requests?
Bernini: The customers request high performance and lower prices: the saving input of every company imposes lower prices on “packaging”. We are constantly in demand to pay less for packaging, so it is thus necessary to develop new raw materials, new systems and high performing machines.
